About the Author

Connie HopeConstance L. Hope is my given name, but I am known to most as Connie or even to some as “Crazy Connie,” or CC. I’m not really crazy, but I love to laugh and have a good time.

I was born and raised in a small borough in New Jersey called Metuchen, sometimes called “the Brainy Borough.” I graduated from Metuchen High School in 1965 and am in the middle of trying to organize our 50th class reunion for 2015. Wow! Time has really flown by. And what a great time it has been. Since high school, I married, raised three children that are now grown, and divorced. I now have a life partner of twenty years and reside in Fort Myers, Florida where the weather is warm and the fruit is abundant.

My father wrote five books on the genealogy of our family—the Thornall family tree. In the first book, I read about my grandmother, Daisy Thornall and her tea room. When she was on this planet, I never knew that she owned and operated a tea room in Metuchen until I read it in my father’s book. Her tea room was called the Bonnie Neuk and I have called the tea room in my book after hers. There are a lot of similarities.

I can’t remember when I didn’t want to write. In retrospect, winning the “What is Patriotism” writing contest for CAR (Children of the American Revolution) in fifth grade was what made me determined to become a writer-someday. I said to my dad, “I want to write when I grow up.”

During the next twenty five plus years, I balanced raising and educating three children as well as working. I made a decent living, but never lost the desire to write. It continued to be my hidden passion—write a story, a novel or a cookbook. Well, between marriage, children and work, it monopolized all of my time, but I always had in the back of my mind to write.

When I moved to Fort Myers in 2007, I couldn’t find a job as the market was in a decline.

One afternoon I was sitting reading on our lanai, suddenly someone tapped me on the shoulder. I quickly turned around, but no one was there. Was I dreaming? I picked up my book again and tried to resume reading. And then a voice came in loud and clear. “Write your book. Now! Get to it! It’s your time”   And that is what I did

I have now written my second cookbook, Soups and Stews...Comfort by the Spoonful. All you need is a Spoon!
